The people sensitive to alergic eye ailments are usually having
the history of allergic rhinitis and atopic dermatitis with powerful
hereditary allergic history. The symptoms of eye alergy generally
appear before attaining 30 years age.
The situation for causing allergic symptoms is almost similar for
the eyes as that of the nose.
The allergens develop the alergy antibody – IgE for coating
various mast cells in the conjunctiva. These mast cells are promoted
to discharge histamine and other mediators when re-exposed to the
allergens. This may lead to itching, burning, runny nose that turns
red because of inflammation which ends up in congestion. Often the
conjunctiva swells with fluid and obtrudes from the eye surfaces
like hive on the eye. Both the eyes are affected by the eye allergic
reactions.
